Texas Catholic Letters

December 23, 2008

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Madison
Dallas, Texas

Dear Jim and Norma,

Thank you for your gift to The Catholic Foundation. Christmas is a wonderful time of year when we celebrate the birth of Christ and look forward to the New Year with great hope. Your generous gift reflects a deep appreciation for the blessings that have been bestowed upon you; rest assured that it will be put to work helping our Catholic Community.

2008 has been a good year for The Catholic Foundation. Our donations have grown to record levels because of thoughtful charitable estate planning for which the Foundation was able to provide assistance. As a result of that planning we expect almost $10 million in additions to our unrestricted and restricted funds this year.

The Catholic Foundation has been able to make grants throughout our Catholic community due to these gifts.  Grants from the unrestricted endowment of the Foundation were $1,164,571 and assisted with 39 different initiatives within the Diocese. In addition, endowments, charitable trusts and donor advised funds of the Foundation accounted for over $7 million.  As with the gifts, 2008 has been a record year for grants at The Catholic Foundation.

So in spite of the current discouraging economic news the Foundation has received much and has been able to give much in 2008. This is only possible because of generous individuals such as you who chose to support and become a part of our future.

We hope that the New Year will bring you much happiness and prosperity.

Sincerely,

Edwin M. Schaffler
President and Chief Executive Officer
