Dear Fran,
Thank you for your nice letter of thanks regarding the Work of Heart program. As you said, the program has been a wonderful expression of appreciation to the many individuals serving in our Catholic schools, as well as a nice financial boost for each honoree receiving the $500 award check.
It is my pleasure to tell you that your hope for the continuation of Work of Heart has been realized. The program will continue for the 2009-10 school year. The trustees of The Catholic Foundation share your belief that the program has a positive impact on our Catholic school community, and they have agreed to provide funding from the Foundation for the upcoming school year.
The rules will be the same as in the first four years, and we hope to continue to receive many nominations as in prior years. As you may remember, anyone in the community may make a nomination. The Work of Heart committee will be looking for such attributes as traditional merit, tenure and leadership, enthusiastic instruction, unexpected acts of kindness or charity, Christian example, mentoring and just going the extra mile. The $500 awards will be presented monthly and, as you know, the presentations are always fun and exciting.
Fran, we have sent out new posters to all of the schools announcing the renewal of Work of Heart for the new school year. We are looking forward to another year of recognizing the outstanding service that is happening in our schools every day.
