Dear Sally and John,
Following up on our visit last week I have enclosed a copy of The Good Advisor titled "Charitable Giving In Troubled Economic Times." The Catholic Foundation has sent it to over 5,000 professional advisors throughout our community to keep the estate planning community abreast of important topics.
In the issue you will see commentary on virtually all charitable giving techniques available to a donor as they contemplate an estate plan. Each technique represents a way to plan charitable giving in these turbulent economic times. At The Catholic Foundation, we are equipped to assist a donor with all of these types of gifts and ensure that their charitable plans are carried out both during their life and afterwards.
The issue emphasizes that charitable giving can be done in many ways. In these times it is important that we continue to support our parishes, schools and other favorite charitable causes both through current gifts and planned gifts. It is becoming evident that charitable giving is declining during these times, but our charities need our support now more than ever.
Sally and John, I encourage you to give the ideas in The Good Advisor serious consideration. As we agreed, you do not have to be "rich" to create an effective and tax wise charitable plan which can have a profound impact on charity and may allow you to turn the current economic situation into an opportunity.
Thanks for the opportunity to talk charitable gift planning with you and I look forward to having The Catholic Foundation assist you further.
Very truly yours,
Edwin M. Schaffler
President and Chief Executive Officer
